Living Faith

By Fr. Peter Woodruff

This year we recall with gratitude the living faith of Columbans and others that has shaped our individual journeys and that of our Society for our first 100 years of mission to the world. Individually, we celebrate our own journeys of striving to be missionary disciples of Jesus Christ.

As we approach the culmination of the celebration of the centennial of the foundation of our Society we continue to live in hope – "… having this hope for what we cannot yet see, we are able to wait for it with persevering confidence." (Rom. 8, 25) We do this asking forgiveness in the spirit of the Jesus prayer: "Lord Jesus Christ, have mercy on me, a sinner."

As we approach the culmination of the celebration of the centennial of the foundation of our Society we continue to live in hope — “… having this hope for what we cannot yet see, we are able to wait for it with preserving confidence.” (Rom. 8, 25)

In the spirit of the Magnificat, we give praise to God for all achieved in and through us in God's name: My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, …"

Conscious of the promise of Jesus—I am with you always— we ask God to guide us as we continue to walk our personal and communal paths.

In varied ways, the content of this issue prompts us to continue dreaming, challenges us to keep hope alive while always keeping in mind limitations due to both the contexts in which we live and strive, and our own abilities.
